Why Do I Support the YMCA...

Belonging & Confidence

I support the YMCA because a mother came to me concerned about one of her boys of 10 years old who was always shy and who didn’t participate much in anything. However, when she would come to pick him up he was always smiling and engaging himself with others around him. It brought tears to her eyes to see him enjoying himself and having that sense of belonging. She would tell me that on the ride home from camp all he would do is talk about all the different things that he was able to do, (this was coming from a child who was quiet and kept to himself.) Mom was convinced of a completely new child who looked and acted more confident.

Independence

I support the YMCA because there was a parent dropping off her children and was afraid that they were not going to enjoy it for it was a new experience for them and not their routine day care program. Usually when she picks them up from day care she said they would be always waiting and anticipating for pick up and running to her before she even signs them out. But at YMCA Camp Indian Springs Day Camp her daughters continued to play and be engaged and didn’t even realize that mom was there to pick them up and then when they realized she was there, they wanted mom to participate in what they were doing. Mom was so happy to see her children becoming more independent from her.

Spiritual

I support the YMCA because I loved hearing a 4th grader say while we were finishing up a Bible story at Day Camp that she had never opened up a Bible, and she had that opportunity at camp. I remember how she was glowing when she got to open the Bible up and then volunteered to read a verse in front of her group. She was a camper who was able to embrace a new experience and willing to grow. She was able to grow spiritually in an environment that did not judge, and was supported from her peers and adults around her.

Belonging, Confident, Independent, Spiritual and more can all be what your child and others can experience with the Capital Region YMCA programs. Give Kids A Chance is our slogan for the Capital Region YMCA’s annual campaign. No matter you contribution, big or small, allows another child to be a part of a program that can impact them and their parents for life. Please Give Kids A Chance and donate today!
